Summary
An exciting opportunity to work at an OFSTED Outstanding Special School.We are seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our Intervention and Response Team 3 days a week and 2 days a week as a class based Higher Level Teaching Assistant.
Briarwood has a dedicated team of staff, governors and parents/carers who are proud to support 164 children and young people aged 3 to 19 years and are passionate about their progress, happiness and care.
You will be required to work with a range of pupils whom have severe and profound learning difficulties. A large number of our pupils have challenging behaviours and are within the Autistic Spectrum or have high medical needs. Candidates must bring energy, confidence and enthusiasm with a commitment to inclusion. We will provide a planned induction with a large, strong and supportive teaching and support team. As a HLTA withing the Interventions and Response Tea, under the guidance of the Head of Provision, Head of Inclusion, Assistant Head, Heads of Schools and teaching staff, you will provide direct support for the pupils in emergency situations as well as supporting their learning through bespoke interventions. As a class based HLTA you will be required to use a reflective approach to learners, their learning and needs and be able to work creatively and proactively. Emotional resilience and an ability to engage learners is a must. Experience and knowledge in working with children within a special needs setting is desirable.
The post is 32.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday 8.45am to 3.45pm. Term time only. The roles are fixed term from 05/01/2026 to 13/02/2025. £ 24,627 to £27,030 (actual salary) per annum, dependent on continuous service within local government.
