Our client is seeking a strong Payroll Manager to join their team on an interim basis
Duties include;
- Manage end-to-end monthly payroll processing for all staff including FPS & EPS
- Ensure accurate input of data including overtime, contract changes, sickness, maternity/paternity, and unpaid leave.
- Perform manual pay calculations (e.g. leavers' final pay, holiday pay).
- Process Bacs payments and reconcile payroll journals with finance systems.
- Maintain and update payroll systems with current pay scales, tax codes, NI rates, and pension deduction rates.
- Enrol eligible staff into the appropriate pension scheme (TPS for teaching staff, LGPS for support staff).
- Monthly contributions
- Starter and leaver forms
- Annual returns (e.g. Teachers' Pensions Annual Service Return)
- Ensure compliance with auto-enrolment legislation and communicate changes to staff.
- Liaise with pension providers and software vendors to resolve issues and implement updates.
- Support external audits and pension reconciliations.
- Submit statutory returns to HMRC and pension schemes.
- Ensure compliance with PAYE, NI, and pension legislation.
- Monitor and implement changes in payroll and pension regulations.
- Analyse payroll data to identify risks (e.g. National Living Wage compliance).
- Maintain and optimise payroll and pension software.
- Lead system upgrades, testing, and implementation of new features.
- Collaborate with HR and IT teams to ensure data accuracy and integration.
You will have;
- In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation (PAYE, NI, statutory payments).
- Strong understanding of TPS and LGPS rules, contributions, and reporting requirements.
- Experience with auto-enrolment and pension re-enrolment cycles.
- Proficiency in payroll software.
- High level of accuracy in data entry and calculations.
- Ability to spot and resolve discrepancies quickly.
- Strong reconciliation and audit trail maintenance skills.
