Summary

Job Title: Field Service Engineer

Location: Manchester

Position Type: Full-Time - Perm

Pay rate: £15.00-£19.00ph (after 40 hours paid at 1.5x)

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Field Service Engineer to support, maintain, and repair large mining and construction equipment. This role involves hands-on technical expertise, problem-solving in the field, and delivering high-quality service to ensure maximum equipment uptime and performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on large hydraulic shovels and excavators (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems).


  • Conduct field inspections and preventative maintenance programs to minimize unplanned downtime.


  • Accurately identify equipment faults and determine corrective actions in a timely manner.


  • Provide technical support, training, and guidance to customers and operators on equipment use and care.


  • Prepare detailed service reports, including diagnostics performed, parts used, and work completed.


  • Collaborate with engineering and product support teams to resolve complex technical issues.


  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies while working on-site.


  • Manage tools, parts, and equipment inventory effectively while in the field.


    Qualifications & Skills
    • Trade certification, degree, or diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Heavy Equipment Engineering (or equivalent experience).


    • Proven experience in servicing large mining/construction equipment, particularly hydraulic shovels and excavators.


    • Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, electrical systems, and machine control systems.


    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.


    • Competence in using diagnostic software and tools.


    • Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong focus on safety and quality.


    • Effective communication and customer service skills.


    • Willingness to travel frequently and work independently in field environments.


      Preferred Experience
      • OEM or dealer background in heavy mining equipment.


      • Experience with brands such as Caterpillar, Hitachi, Komatsu, or Liebherr.


      • Familiarity with condition monitoring, telematics, and predictive maintenance technologies.
