Learning Support Assistant - Specialist SEN School (Autism & Complex Needs)
Location: Trafford
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, term-time only (Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 15:30)
Daily Rate: £110 per day

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a nurturing and forward-thinking specialist SEN school in Trafford from September 2025. The school supports students aged 11-19 with autism, severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), and associated sensory and communication needs.
This is a full-time, long-term role ideal for someone passionate about inclusive education and providing life-changing support to students with high levels of need. The school is well-resourced with therapy-led interventions, sensory rooms, and a collaborative multi-disciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting students in small groups or 1:1, following a highly personalised, sensory-based curriculum
- Assisting with personal care, feeding, and manual handling (training provided)
- Encouraging communication through Makaton, PECS, AAC, or other specialist strategies
- Promoting student engagement using play, sensory stories, music, and structured activities
- Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement EHCPs, therapy goals, and care plans
- Supporting students during sessions such as hydrotherapy or rebound therapy, where needed
✅ You Must:
- Have experience supporting individuals with autism, complex needs, or PMLD in a school, care or community setting
- Be comfortable with personal care and manual handling
- Be calm, patient, empathetic, and committed to a person-centred approach
- Hold the right to work in the UK and be available full-time (Mon-Fri)
- Have or be willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS on the Child and Adult Workforce (Update Service or new application)
⭐ Desirable (but not essential):
- Training in Makaton, PECS, AAC, or British Sign Language (BSL)
- Team Teach, MAPA, or other behaviour management certification
- A Level 2 or 3 qualification in Teaching & Learning or Health & Social Care
