Summary
The Civilian Boat Support Manager will be responsible to the SPO CMU, through the Operations Inspectors, for continuity and interface between all agencies involved in the maintenance, repair, and support of Police Launches and RHIBs and their associated equipment. He/she will also be responsible to the Operational Support (Marine) Department at MDP HQ, for the completion of returns as directed. He/she must also be prepared to attend out with normal working hours, if required.
Each working day, liaise with the Operations Inspectors and Duty Station Officer to determine, where operational tasking permits, the priority of repairs. Relay the information to the repair facility, to determine the appropriate course of action, and complete a Work Authorisation Form (WAF) accordingly.
Liaise with Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) Commercially Supported Shipping (CSS) – Boats, to determine the course of action which best facilitates the continuity of planned or unplanned maintenance, major defect rectification and boat refits, and the condition of vessels under repair or refit.
Ensure all Lloyds certification certificates are all in date.
Host visiting representatives of the repair companies and escort them to the various work locations.
During acceptance trials, post refit trials, and following periods of deep maintenance, record any defects and make appropriate arrangements for rectification.
Carry out First Line Manager duties for the Boat Support AO, and the Skill Zone 2 Assistant.
When required, arrange with the relevant contractor, bilge cleaning of Launches.
Assume responsibility for completing a Incident Notification Form (INF) for any Accidents, Near Misses and Reportable Incidents involving CMU civilian support staff.
Maintain responsibility for the auditing, ordering, storing, distribution and return of pyrotechnics.
Ensure that the CMU Skill Zone Assistant maintains a stock of ready use spares and that he/she also arranges to change Life rafts and Hydrostatic Releases, within date, as required by MCA Safety Regulations.
Maintain a comprehensive computer database for all marine craft.
At the end of each day, between Monday and Friday, forward a completed Launch & RHIB Operational Status Report to the following persons by e-mail: -
CMU Operations Inspectors.
CMU DSO.
MDP Ops Support (Marine).
Relevant Maintenance Contractor.
DE&S CSS-Boats.
DNBO at HMNB Clyde.
Shift Commander Clyde.
Be responsible to the Fleet Management Department at MDP HQ for completion of returns, as directed.
Work in partnership with the relevant Base Department, to assist with the upkeep of marine berthing facilities.
