Summary

Job Description

This is a fixed term post until 31/03/2026.

West Dunbartonshire HSCP is seeking a committed and experienced Independent Reviewing Co-ordinator (IRC) to join our Children and Families Service. This is a pivotal role in ensuring that the voices, rights, and wellbeing of looked after children and young people are at the heart of planning and decision-making.

As an IRC, you will:

- Chair statutory reviews for looked after children and young people.
- Monitor care planning to ensure it is timely, effective, and child-centred.
- Challenge drift and delay, and promote best outcomes for children.
- Work collaboratively with social workers, carers, families, and partner agencies.
- Uphold the principles of The Promise and ensure compliance with legislation and guidance.

You will also contribute to service development, quality assurance, and strategic planning across the wider Children’s Services team.

We’re looking for someone who:

- Is a qualified social worker registered with the SSSC.
- Has substantial experience in children’s social work, including care planning and review.
- Demonstrates strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
- Is confident in challenging practice and advocating for children’s rights.
- Understands the legal and policy framework for looked after children in Scotland.

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2020 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.

Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

Responsibilities
