Summary

Job Description

West Dunbartonshire Council are recruiting for a dedicated and respectful individual to join our Bereavement Services team as a Chargehand Gravedigger. This is a vital role that supports bereaved families and ensures our cemeteries are maintained to the highest standards.

The successful candidate will lead a team of gravediggers who will be responsible for:

- Preparing graves safely and accurately using both hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Backfilling and reinstating graves following services.
- Maintaining cemetery grounds, including grass cutting, path clearing, and general upkeep.
- Supporting funeral services with dignity and professionalism.
- Ensuring all work complies with health and safety regulations and cemetery policies

The post holder will have experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or similar outdoor work, the ability to operate machinery such as mini excavators (training can be provided) and a respectful, compassionate approach to working in sensitive environments.

Please note that applicants should hold a JCB certificate and a Front Loader Dumper certificate as this is an essential requirement to the post.
