This post is based within the Advice Shop where the successful candidate will work to promote financial inclusion and alleviate poverty through advice and advocacy in the areas of welfare benefits, money, housing and energy advice.


As part of a Macmillan Cancer Support funded project you will provide a specialist income maximisation service for people affected by cancer receiving treatment through services at the Western General Hospital.


The main function of this role is to provide advice, advocacy and representation for patients, carers and health professionals at the Western General Hospital and to work in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to ensure the customer is at the centre of a high-quality advice service.


The successful candidate will also assist in developing the service and help with targeted campaigns.


Experience giving money/debt, benefits, energy or housing advice is desirable and the ability to research and use analytical skills is important. Empathy, listening skills and understanding are vital to excel in the role. Training will be provided as part of the induction programme and ongoing training and support will be available to the successful candidate.


This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011 preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council
