Job objectives and responsibilities
The role is extremely commercially focused, supporting contract/project managers, operations and business development teams. The key to being successful in this role is adding value - supporting growth targets by winning new business with the business development teams and working with operations to ensure we maximise revenue from existing clients and make sure we deliver our services as efficiently as possible, ensuring contract profitability is maximised and working capital management is optimised.
· Responsible for producing the monthly management accounts for allocated business units, ready for review with the Head of Commercial Finance, Divisional Finance Director and Business Unit Directors.
· Good close working relationship with the operational and commercial teams, providing commercial and financial input where required.
· Tracking and managing client projects in line with current accounting standards.
· Review contract profitability, highlighting high and low margin contracts for discussion with relevant operational/commercial managers.
· Responsible for delivering a detailed rolling forecast and annual budget, ready for presentation to senior management.
· Act as the link between operations and central finance functions to drive a customer service culture.
Main duties
• Ensure timely and accurate month end reporting of major projects and contracts with integrity, accuracy and consistency to provide clear visibility of the financial health of such projects and contracts.
• Ensure accurate accounting of accrued/deferred income, accruals and prepayments during the month end process.
• Understanding and challenging current business practice, identifying and implementing initiatives to improve process and deliver business growth objectives.
• Partnering with business leads and Operational Directors/Managers to prepare full annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
• Support business development/sales teams to identify, track, review and financially appraise the sales pipeline.
• Close working relationship with OTC team to ensure accurate and timely billing, efficient payroll reporting and driving improvements in the working capital.
• Provide clear visibility and communication to the business on non-current debt.
• Being pro-active in identifying and implementing added value opportunities.
• Detailed financial analysis and presentation of financial information to support decision making.
• Ad hoc analysis and presentation of complex financial information in response to senior management requests.
• Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to help drive business performance and provide high quality financial information.
• Develop and report KPI's relevant to clients' needs.
• Support operations teams with cost management of client projects.
• Identify and drive financial efficiency ensuring the correct allocation of the service lines shared cost base.
• Provide objective challenge to the Division's performance and plans.
• Provide forward looking insight utilising experience of the past and utilising financial and business acumen.
• Undertake project/contract profitability analysis, providing insight to Operations on opportunities and risks.
• Develop business cases and support the bid process for new business.Person Specification
• ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CIPFA qualified, ideally with 3+ year's commercial experience.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Influential and motivational leadership capability.
• Good commercial skills with the ability to sit in front of a key clients and talk about our mix of service lines.
• Experience of working in a fast-paced environment and ability to prioritise a changing workload and use initiative.
• Good communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial individuals.
• High level of integrity with a commitment to embedding a strong governance culture.
• Strong organisational skills and an adaptive mindset to switch between tasks seamlessly.
• A hardworking individual with lots of energy, who can deliver high quality work to tight reporting deadlines and demonstrate desire to progress within the company.
• Able to produce concise and informative reporting under tight deadlines.
