Summary

Oxleas established a highly regarded musculoskeletal (MSK) service in partnership with King's College Hospital for Bexley ICB. We have taken this excellent work forward in a new alliance partnership working with the ICB and local secondary care providers. This is to continue to provide rapid triage, assessment and treatment for Bexley residents with MSK conditions and MSK rehabilitation needs, linking with other services to ensure the right treatment is delivered in the right place and time.

The service has previously won the Bexley CCG mystery shopper patient experience award for two years running, the Bexley Care team of the year in the annual Oxleas recognition awards in 2017/18, and the Bexley team of the Quarter award in 2021.

Bexley has developed a robust Band 5 MSK Podiatry training post to support new graduates or experienced community Podiatrists into an MSK career. We are looking for an enthusiastic Podiatrist who is looking for a path into Musculoskeletal care, with structured training and support available for the right candidate to grow into the role. You will work closely with a large team of Podiatrists, Podiatric Surgeons, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Psychologists to deliver gold standard care to people living with MSK foot and ankle pain.

Support includes but is not limited to:
• Large multidisciplinary team with daily support
• No lone working
• AHP preceptorship programme
• Weekly 1:1 supervision sessions
• Weekly group supervision sessions
• Twice monthly in-service training programme
• Access to external CPD

Oxleas offers a wide range of NHS healthcare services to people in community and secure environment settings. Our services include community health care such as district nursing and speech and language therapy, care for people with learning disabilities and mental health care such as psychiatry, nursing and therapies. Our multidisciplinary teams look after people of all ages and we work in close partnership with other parts of the NHS, local councils and the voluntary sector and through our new provider collaboratives. Our 4,300 members of staff work in many different settings including hospitals, clinics, prisons, secure hospitals, children’s centres, schools and people’s homes.

We have over 125 sites in a variety of locations in the South of England. In London we operate within the Boroughs of Bexley, Bromley Greenwich and into Kent. We manage hospital sites including Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup and Memorial Hospital, Woolwich, as well as the Bracton Centre, our medium secure unit for people with mental health needs. We are the largest NHS provider of prison health services providing healthcare to prisons within Devon, Dorset, Bristol, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, Kent and South London. We are proud of the care we provide and our people.

Our purpose is to improve lives by providing the best possible care to our patients and their families. This is strengthened by our new values:
• We’re Kind
• We’re Fair
• We Listen
• We Care

In your clinical role you will be supported to:
• Assess and diagnose a wide range of MSK foot and ankle conditions
• Issue tailored rehabilitation exercise programmes to support recovery
• Know when and how to use prefabricated and custom foot orthoses
• Administer shockwave therapy for recalcitrant pathology
• Receive structured support from senior staff to know when to refer for clinical investigations (such as x-ray, MRI, diagnostic ultrasound, blood tests and nerve conduction studies) and how to make treatment plans with the results that are received

We are looking for the right candidate to grow into this role, and previous staff have been successful at interview for more senior posts after completing the Band 5 MSK training role.
