Summary
Our client is currently recruiting a SHEQ Manager to develop and implement effective and scalable HSE plans, systems, processes, and procedures. This role will contribute to the growth of the HSE department, ensuring strong legislative compliance across all HSE disciplines for the company and its employees.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and continuously improve Safety and Health (S&H) management systems tailored to plastics recycling operations.
Ensure compliance with all relevant UK legislation, HSE requirements, and our client's policies
Conduct risk assessments, workplace inspections, and audits, with a focus on high-risk recycling operations such as machinery, conveyors, forklifts, and manual handling.
Lead and coordinate incident and accident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective/preventive actions are implemented.
Deliver and oversee training programs, including induction, machinery safety, manual handling, PPE use, fire safety, and emergency response.
Promote a proactive safety culture by engaging with staff at all levels and encouraging hazard reporting and near-miss identification.
Monitor and report on key performance indicators (e.g., accident frequency rate, lost-time incidents, audit compliance).
Liaise with external agencies (e.g., HSE, local authority, environment agency, certification bodies) during inspections and audits.
Support managers and supervisors in embedding safe systems of work and maintaining compliance.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline.
NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) preferred; IOSH or IEMA membership advantageous.
Proven experience in a safety management role within manufacturing, recycling, or waste management.
Strong working knowledge of PUWER, COSHH, LOLER, and waste industry regulations.
Demonstrable experience implementing safety improvements in a high-risk industrial setting.
Full-time role, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Work environment is predominantly in a warehouse or processing facility with regular exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery.
