Laser and Punch Setter/Operator


Working Hours: 4pm to 2am Monday to Thursday (38 hours)
Contract Type: Full time Temp to Perm

Purpose of the Role

To operate and set CNC laser cutting and punch machines for the accurate and efficient production of metal components used in Point of Sale (POS) products. This role ensures production schedules are met while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and machine care.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC laser and/or CNC punch press machines in accordance with engineering drawings and job specifications.
• Perform program adjustments and tool changes to optimise machine performance.
• Check and inspect components using measuring tools to ensure accuracy and quality.
• Monitor machine operations, identifying and correcting errors or malfunctions.
• Ensure correct material is used for each job, minimising waste and maximising efficiency.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, job sheets, and machine programs.
• Carry out preventative maintenance and report any faults or breakdowns.
• Maintain a clean and organised work area in line with company standards.
• Comply with all health and safety requirements and use appropriate PPE.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential:

• Experience setting and operating CNC laser cutting and/or CNC punch machines.
• Experience working in a manufacturing or sheet metal fabrication environment.

Desirable:

• Background in POS or bespoke metalwork manufacturing.
• Experience with Amada, Trumpf, or Bystronic machinery.

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Capable of setting up tooling and inputting programs where required.
• Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
• Strong understanding of safe working practices around machinery.
