Summary

JOB TITLE: Lead Infrastructure Specialist (z Mainframe lab - Database SysProg)

SALARY: £90,440 - £106,400 dependent upon experience

LOCATION: Edinburgh

HOURS: Full-time - please note that this role will require you to be on call outside of normal working hours and there will be an additional on call allowance.

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Edinburgh office

About this opportunity

You'll be part of the z Mainframe Lab, reporting to the Engineering Lead for z Mainframe Hosting, and leading a team of c15 Infrastructure Specialists (Database Sysprog engineers). The z Mainframe Lab are the team that looks after the critical infrastructure that underpins Lloyds Banking Group's (LBG) strategic transactional processing systems, namely the IBM Z Mainframe. The IBM Z Mainframe is Lloyds Banking Group's (LBG) platform of choice for our high-end transactional processing requirements for business units.

We're looking for someone to lead, inspire and develop a team of backend engineers. You'll drive a strategic effort to improve the agility, pace of operations and cost, of our z Mainframe Lab for LBG. The services you'll help lead, develop, and operate are at the core of our infrastructure and require high quality while moving fast to keep up with our customers' needs. This is an exciting time to join the z Mainframe team! We're investing heavily in transformation activities which you'll directly be involved in!

What you'll do

  • Team leadership of roughly 15 engineers including personal development and day to day task & demand management. This will take up about 30% of your time!

  • Working with stakeholders to translate technical incidents into non-technical language

  • Incident, Change and Problem Management

  • Risk Management & controls

  • Supporting service improvements, applying Agile methods and working using JIRA and Jira Align toolsets

  • Driving backlog prioritisation of tasks and managing capacity within the team

  • Planning & supporting decommissioning & system upgrade activity

  • Acting as the technical point of contact for the team, developing and leading engineering product evolution in the z Mainframe lab.

  • Support the Engineering Lead.

  • Talent Management - Supporting our growing talent hires as they develop.

What you'll need

  • Experienced in both operational and line management/ talent development of a small to medium sized team of Engineers.

  • Background working in the z Mainframe sector and engineering experience with relevant technical concepts for z Mainframe Database technologies.

  • Experience in a technical leadership position, working at a senior level.

  • If you have a financial services background or experience working within a regulated environment that would be beneficial.
