Summary
Applications are invited for the post of Professor of Molecular Therapies in the Department of Biological Sciences. This is a part-time role at 0.5 FTE and is for the fixed term of 36 months. The position is available from 1 October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
A unique opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to join the Department. The post holder will be expected to have an outstanding track record in the field of molecular therapies for human rare disease, specifically neurofibromatosis type 1. They should demonstrate an international reputation in research, evidenced through their excellent publication record and substantial grant income. They should show previous success with licensing of patents and be a named inventor. The post holder should have funded international collaborations that will enable research towards clinical application of molecular therapies to treat human neurofibromatosis type 1. The post holder must also demonstrate previous experience with the Human Tissue Authority, Health and Safety and research ethics. The post holder is expected to have an established track record in training the next generation of scientists with success in supervising PhD students to completion.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the teaching in the Department through the provision of engaging lectures and practicals, particularly for students on the Biomedical Sciences degree. They should be able to evidence experience in teaching with excellent student feedback. As part of their module leadership role, the post holder will be required to liaise with clinical colleagues in local hospitals and others in the biopharmaceutical industry. They will also run undergraduate projects and provide personal tutoring to undergraduate students. The post holder will contribute to our MSc by Research post-graduate course. The post holder will be expected to contribute to administration within the Department as required by the Head of Department, including contributing to the Rare Disease Day organised by the Department.
