The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Design Manager to lead our electrical engineering and design team. In this role, you will coordinate and deliver projects while managing a team of engineers and designers, ensuring quality, efficiency and technical excellence.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
- Manage designers and engineers within your discipline, including utilisation, holidays, expenses, performance reviews and timesheets.
- Develop, mentor and motivate your team, ensuring training and development plans are in place.
- Review, update and implement procedures, standards, guidance notes and forms.
- Lead recruitment and resourcing for your discipline.
- Take ownership of proposals, estimates and budgets.
- Manage and assure the quality of engineering and design output for single and multi-discipline projects.
- Appoint capable discipline checkers and approvers.
- Oversee electrical design delivery within multi-discipline engineering, EPCM and EPC projects, across both greenfield and brownfield applications.
- Deliver projects across multiple sectors including Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Energy, Utilities, Chemicals, Petrochemicals and Food.
- Ensure projects are completed within budget, on schedule, and in alignment with other engineering disciplines.
- Act as a client-facing representative, managing expectations and securing design acceptance.
- Participate in internal and external design reviews.
- Provide technical support and make independent engineering decisions.
- Lead multi-discipline project coordination with Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Process and Automation teams.
- Check and approve engineering and design estimates, reporting on progress, scope changes and resource usage.
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
- Previous experience as a line manager.
- Previous experience as a Lead Engineer (EC&I) within multi-discipline projects (Engineering / EPCM / EPC).
- Strong track record in quality control and implementing engineering procedures.
- Deep knowledge of EC&I engineering and design, with working knowledge of related disciplines (Automation, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Piping and Process).
- Capable of forecasting and managing resources, ensuring efficient utilisation.
- Strong understanding of industry standards including 7671, 7430, 61508, 61511, ATEX, DSEAR, LV and HV.
- Strong planning and organisational skills with a “right first time” mindset.
- Commercial awareness and ability to support business development.
- Effective delegation skills with a hands-on awareness of project progress.
- Strong leadership and motivational skills, even under challenging circumstances.
- Confident in managing change control and communicating implications to clients.
- Experienced in chairing and leading design review meetings.
It’s great if you also have the following
- MEng / BEng in EC&I Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards).
