Summary

This role is offered on a part time basis of 20 hours per week, this means that candidates interested in working part time are encouraged to apply and will receive a salary on a pro rata basis.

Working within an experienced Transfusion Practitioner Team, you will work in a varied, interesting and challenging role, which offers exposure to a wide range of different specialities.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to expand your skills and knowledge within this specialist subject, gaining valuable teaching and leadership experience.

You will be from a nursing, midwifery, or Biomedical Scientist background and will have significant post-registration experience of blood and blood component transfusion practice within a clinical or laboratory setting.

Excellent communication and presentation skills are required, teaching experience is essential with the ability to work autonomously as well as within a team.

This post will assist the transfusion practitioner team with education & training, incident investigation, risk management, service improvement, clinical audit, the facilitation of change and the provision of specialist transfusion advice.
Together with the Hospital Transfusion Team and the Trust Transfusion Committee you will be promoting awareness of the current regulatory and statutory requirements that impact on transfusion practice and support the delivery of measures to ensure compliance.
The post holder will work as an integral member of the Hospital Transfusion Team (HTT) and in conjunction with the Hospital Transfusion Committee (HTC) and will be responsible for providing specialist advice within the area of transfusion medicine to colleagues and patients.
The post holder will be instrumental in supporting the National Blood Transfusion Committee’s 2014 Patient Blood Management strategy, promoting clinical excellence and specialist advice within transfusion.
The Specialist Nurse will report to the Lead Transfusion Practitioner and matron within their area of speciality to ensure he/she contributes to directorate and Trust strategic service development plans.
The post holder will be required to carry out multi-professional training, presentations and competency assessments as the main part of their role.
They will also need to attend Major Haemorrhage declarations. Support will be given to the individual by the Lead Transfusion Practitioner.
