The role of the Adult Support and Protection Senior Practitioner is one of the key roles to help achieve this for adults affected by disability, learning disability, mental illness, physical or mental infirmity, and who fall under the auspices of the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007.
The Adult Support & Protection Senior Practitioner Team take a lead role in Edinburgh's Multi-Agency Adult Protection procedures, chairing Adult Protection Case Conferences and Reviews, overseeing Adult Protection Plans and providing expert advice and guidance to a range of staff across the Health & Social Care Partnership.
The team work closely with the Council's lead officer for Adult Protection and contribute to assurance and service improvement through auditing and other improvement activities which are governed through the Adult Protection Committee.
The Adult Support and Protection Senior Practitioners also take a lead role in ensuring that training on adult support and protection at all levels remains up to date with legislation, policy, and practice and are involved in the delivery of the training programme.
Applicants should have considerable experience as a social worker and be an accredited Council Officer under the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007. You should have significant experience of working with adults with a range of needs and difficulties.
You should have a sound understanding of the principles and practice of risk assessment and the ability to promote individual autonomy within an appropriate framework of individual and public protection.
You should have a good understanding of the impact of trauma on adult functioning and decision making and have completed relevant training under the Trauma framework.
A knowledge of a range of adult and public protection issues such as violence against women and girls, human trafficking and modern slavery, forced marriage and honour based violence, and county lines drug gang activity and cuckooing would be beneficial.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
