Summary

We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Clinical Research Assistant within our Respiratory Medicine and Gastroenterology team, to coordinate the Scottish Airways Research Network. This is a fixed-term appointment for 1 year with the potential to renew contract depending on progress.

The post holder will work under the supervision of Dr Rory Chan, to provide research support for our respiratory research group, a multidisciplinary team conducting clinical research into important lung conditions such as asthma and COPD.

The main duties of the post, for which full training will be given, involve ensuring the successful running of the Scottish Airways Research Network, a national patient database spanning the 11 largest Scottish NHS trusts. As part of this work, occasional travel to other hospitals and academic centres, largely within Scotland, will be required. Recruiting volunteers into studies, accurate data collection and database entry are also significant parts of the job. Testing of pulmonary and nasal function, maintenance and calibration of equipment, biological sample handling and preparation of solutions for bronchial challenge testing may also be required.

The successful candidate should have a qualification in a science or health related subject. Previous experience of any of the above or working with the public would be advantageous. It is important the applicants can work as part of a team. Candidates must have good communication skills and feel comfortable talking to patients.

Your priorities will include:

  • Produce, collate and record accurate data on behalf of our research studies

  • Perform clinical and physiological measurements on research participants as appropriate, examples of which may include vital signs, height and weight, venepuncture and spirometry

  • Data entry on research databases and Electronic Data Capture systems

  • Assist in the review of research protocols, procedures and study files, contributing to their development where appropriate

Who we're looking for:

  • Educated degree level in a science or health related subject

  • Experience of clinical research

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written

  • Methodical and meticulous approach to data collection and documentation

  • Willingness to occasionally travel to other hospitals and academic centres
