Summary

The role of the LDO is to supervise the CDO team to ensure the custody unit provides lawful, safe and secure detention of detainees and their property whilst they are in custody. So good organisational skills, attention to detail and sound communication skills are important qualities.

The LDO must manage duty planning and team workloads, address staff welfare needs and deal with performance and attendance issues.

The LDO will provide on the job training to support staff and assist them in achieving key performance indicators. Supportive leadership skills are key.

Maintaining the welfare and rights of detainees is also vital via appropriate cell checks, constant observations and the provision of refreshments and health care needs. Emotional intelligence, patience and calm methodical working are vital to this element of the LDO role.

Working with partner agencies such as solicitors, appropriate adults, the youth justice team, mental health support, the courts and detainee transport service is also a vital part of the LDO role requiring good communication skills and an understanding of vulnerability and safeguarding.

This vacancy is a 0.5 FTE so the successful applicant will be working:

0700 - 1900 shift, followed by a Free Day then a 1900 - 0700 shift, followed by a FD. Then 4 RD's.
