Summary

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair, and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counterterrorism, policing, crime, drugs policy, immigration, and passports.

Homeland Security Group’s (HSG) mission is to reduce homeland security risks to the UK’s people, prosperity and freedoms. This includes risks from terrorism, state threats, economic crime and cyber-crime. We provide systems leadership across government and deliver strategic initiatives, working closely with operational partners, the Intelligence Agencies and other external organisations to protect the UK.

An exciting opportunity to work at the heart of national security on priority issues for the Government. The post holders will play a role in supporting strategy development in homeland security and in managing our relationships in responding to Parliamentary Questions and enquiries from the public. There will be exposure to fast-paced policy work in counter terrorism, economic crime and state threats.

Applicants do not need to have a background in national security and will receive mentoring once in post. However, they must possess excellent oral and written briefing skills and an ability to deliver at pace.

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to ensuring Parliamentary Questions, Ministerial Correspondence, and Freedom of Information Requests are responded to within set deadlines and to agreed standards.
  • Provide overall support to briefings on key issues within the Homeland Security Group (HSG), including counter-terrorism, state threats, and economic crime.
  • Offer administrative support to key strategy issues and challenges across the Group.
  • Collate performance reports for HSG Policy teams casework returns.
  • Work with Parliamentary teams to prepare Minister/Officials for Select Committee/Home Office Orals sessions.
  • Build excellent relationships with policy teams within HSG, the wider Home Office, and across Government.
  • Support the team on broader corporate goals, such as business continuity, learning and development.

You will be able to start in post with SC clearance, however you must successfully obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance once in post (if not already held). During the period where you hold SC clearance, you will only perform elements of the role which fall under SC clearance. If your DV clearance application is unsuccessful, you may enter Restructuring, Redeployment or Redundancy.

Working Patterns: Due to business need this post is only available for full time working

Travel: No travel away from the home working location will be required for this post
