This opportunity is in the solution design and development arena for Mainframe Developer who will be responsible for analyzing, designing, and implementing technical solutions to enhance business operations. To collaborate closely with various stakeholders including business users, project managers, and IT teams to gather requirements, propose solutions, and ensure successful implementation. It will involve troubleshooting technical issues, optimizing systems and processes, and supporting project lifecycles from inception to completion.
Job Description (Main Duties and Responsibilities):
Design, code, test, and debug mainframe applications using technologies such as COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, VSAM, and IMS
Analyze user requirements and convert them into technical specifications
Perform code reviews, system analysis, and performance tuning
Modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance
Collaborate with cross-functional teams for application integration and deployment
Maintain comprehensive documentation of programs and systems
Provide production support and troubleshoot issues as needed
Ensure adherence to coding standards, compliance, and quality assurance policies
Key Skills, Qualifications and Experience Needed [The candidate must demonstrate these in all stages of assessment]
3 years of experience in a related field.
Strong programming experience in COBOL, with working knowledge of Assembler, PL/I, and REXX.
Hands-on expertise in writing and debugging JCL (Job Control Language) for batch processing and job scheduling.
In-depth knowledge of mainframe databases such as DB2, IMS, VSAM, and IDMS, including data manipulation, performance tuning, and data modeling.
Experience with CICS for online transaction processing and MQ Series (WebSphere MQ) for message-based integration between applications.
Proficient in using File-AID, SPUFI, QMF, and DFSORT/SYNCSORT for data management, extraction, and reporting.
Skilled in debugging tools such as XPEDITER, Abend-AID, and IBM Debug Tool for efficient issue resolution and troubleshooting.
Experience with version control and configuration management tools like Endevor, Changeman, Panvalet, or Librarian.
Familiar with job scheduling tools such as CA-7, Control-M, or OPC/Tivoli Workload Scheduler.
Exposure to mainframe modernization technologies, including working with REST APIs, SOAP/XML, and JSON parsing in COBOL.
Understanding of z/OS Connect for API enablement on mainframe environments.
Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD practices on mainframe platforms using tools like Jenkins, UrbanCode Deploy, Git, and SonarQube.
Basic knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and IBM Zowe CLI or z/OSMF is a plus.
Experience working in Agile or SAFe environments, with a good grasp of SDLC and version control processes.
Prior exposure to incident/change management systems like ServiceNow or BMC Remedy.
Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., SOX, GDPR) especially in BFSI or other regulated industries.
