Summary

Canterbury Museums and Galleries are looking to recruit a Museum Caretaker to help ensure the smooth running of two of Canterbury’s most popular visitor attractions; the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge and Canterbury Roman Museum. The successful candidate will join a committed team responsible for the day- to – day operation and maintenance of these popular public buildings.

About this Museum Caretaker job:

This role plays a key part in maintaining the smooth operation of Canterbury Museums and Galleries buildings.

Here’s what you’ll get up to:

You’ll ensure the continuous, high-quality presentation of the Museum buildings, including the Beaney and Roman Museum.
You’ll maintain the above buildings and the two museum store sites.
You’ll support the Collection and Programming team with exhibition installations.
You’ll monitor and maintain museum and gallery environmental conditions.

Working pattern:

Contract type: Zero Hours approximately 12-18 hours a week
We operate 7 days a week, so you will need to be able to work on site over a two week shift pattern which includes weekends and occasional evenings.
This role is evenly based across two locations, The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge & Canterbury Roman Museum.

About you, the ideal Museum Caretaker for the job:

Your knowledge

Able to understand and demonstrate knowledge of building management systems and general maintenance procedures.
Understanding of working in heritage buildings

Your experience

Demonstrate experience of delivering excellent customer care, principles and procedures.
Experience of working in a direct customer focused environment.

Your skills

Cleaning & Building Maintenance skills.
MS Office skills, including Word and Excel.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Flexible and adaptable to meet business needs.

Your qualifications

GCSEs level 4-9 in Maths & English or equivalent educational qualification.
First aid certificate/Health and Safety – willing to obtain if not already holding this certificate.
