The Role
We’re recruiting for a Lead Analytics Engineer here at the Ministry of Justice, to be part of our warm and collaborative Data & Analytics Engineering team.

This role aligns against Lead Analytics Engineer from the Government Digital and Data Framework.

This is a great opportunity to work with leading cloud technology and help change the way data is used in the public sector. Analytics engineers at MoJ play a critical role in our mission to put data at the heart of decision-making. We're looking for people with the drive to develop a deep understanding of data needs and data availability across specific areas of the Ministry of Justice. You will lead a team of Analytics Engineers, alongside a team of Data Engineers, to bridge the gap between data producers and data users, developing analytical pipelines and self-service tools to acquire and transform data, making it available on our Analytical Platform.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Lead Analytics Engineer your work might involve:

Gathering user requirements and translating them into clear, deliverable tasks.
Leading a team of Analytics Engineers build flexible, quality-assured dimensional data models for analytical and reporting use, using dbt.
Working with Data Engineers to manage end-to-end data services and to deploy solutions in a reproducible, sustainable way.
Supporting analytical teams to use modelled data effectively, including by collecting, storing and presenting metadata to enable intelligent data use.
Creating and promoting best practices within the analytics engineering community to develop our overall analytics engineering maturity, including developing technical standards and promoting the value and benefits of analytics engineering.
Keeping up to date with current trends and best practices in analytics engineering for continuous improvement
Championing across the department and wider community the benefits of analytics engineering to create a “single version of the truth”
Managing, mentoring or coaching junior colleagues

Person Specification
Essential:

Using SQL to query and transform data
Leading a technical team, preferably one that uses dimensional modelling to support reporting or analysis
Designing data solutions that meet business needs while following recognised patterns and standards
Designing, implementing and communicating appropriate data testing and quality assurance processes.
Setting technical direction within a team and developing the capability of others
Willingness to be assessed against the requirements for SC clearance.
