Summary
The Oral Maxillofacial Unit provides a broad range of management including maxillofacial trauma, management of dentofacial deformity, the management of temporal mandibular joint disease including temporal mandibular joint arthroscopy, oral medicine and the management of facial pain, implant and bone grafting reconstruction of oncology patients as well as the management of disorders of tooth eruption and dentoalveolar surgery. The main Operating Theatre Department comprises four operating theatres, one of which is reserved as an emergency theatre in which the Trauma List takes place each day. Two of the elective theatres have ultra clean air filtration systems both of which are used for orthopaedic operating lists. Currently, a refurbishment program of our Main Theatres is being undertaken. There is a dedicated Day Surgery Unit, which was recently been refurbished and expanded to provide a second operating theatre. A minor operating suite is also available. There is a Surgical Intensive Care Unit which is also used as a High Dependency Unit. This unit is managed on a day-to-day basis by the Anaesthetic Department lead by three Consultant Anaesthetists with a special interest in intensive care. CT scanning is available including a 24 hour on call emergency service including the Consultant Radiologist on call. MRI scanning is available during the day but an out of hours service is currently not available
