Job Title: Conservation Officer

Role length: Anticipated 6 months

Rate: £15.75 - £23.46 per hour PAYE

Additional requirements: Must be able to travel to all parts of both council areas, so Driving Licence is required, and willing to undertake occasional evening and weekend work



The role:

We are seeking a dedicated Conservation Officer to support the delivery of statutory heritage and conservation functions across the council.

This role involves providing expert advice on listed buildings, conservation areas, and heritage matters to officers, councillors, and the public.

You will be expected to contribute to proposals for conservation work including management and enhancement schemes and provide an input into the corresponding policy activities of the section.



Key Responsibilities:

Advise on planning applications affecting listed buildings and conservation areas
Assist in the appraisal of all existing conservation areas leading to the publication of a specific management plans, as well as assisting in the designation of any new conservation areas
Support the development of conservation policies and guidance
Assist in the preparation of Conservation Area Appraisals, Management Plans and boundary reviews
Help maintain a register of locally listed buildings and contribute to the Buildings at Risk survey
Support grant applications and enforcement of unauthorised works to heritage assets
Promote awareness of the historic environment and represent the Councils at public meetings



What the client is looking for:

Degree in Town and Country Planning, Architecture, Building Surveying or Heritage related subject
Relevant post graduate experience in conservation or heritage related field
Knowledge of and ability to communicate the key aspects of preserving and enhancing historic buildings and conservation areas, to members of the public, developers, agents and Councillors
Ability to write clear and concise reports
Ability to present the Council’s case at appeals and examinations
