Playground Engineer
Salary: £28,598 - £31,022 (Grade E)

Nottingham City Council is looking for a Playground Engineer to join our dedicated Parks & Open Spaces team. You’ll play a key role in keeping Nottingham’s play areas safe, well-maintained, and enjoyable for children, families, and visitors across the city.
This is not just a maintenance role, it’s a chance to use your technical abilities to protect and enhance some of Nottingham’s most valued community spaces.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Carrying out routine and responsive inspections of playgrounds and play equipment across the city
- Making repairs to a wide variety of equipment, ensuring it remains safe, secure and fully functional
- Taking responsibility for on-site safety, assessing risks and making areas safe immediately if repairs can’t be completed straight away
- Using your practical skills, including welding, carpentry, painting, and metalwork – to fix and enhance equipment and fittings
- Keeping clear and accurate online records of all inspections, issues and repairs to meet Health & Safety and European Safety Standards
- Supporting the design and development of new play areas, offering your expert insight during planning, commissioning and inspection stages
- Liaising with colleagues to report and respond to any wider site issues such as broken glass or vandalism
- Maintaining a strong focus on safety, accessibility and quality, ensuring Nottingham’s parks and play areas are places people are proud to visit
Who We’re Looking For
- Has experience in repairs, engineering or maintenance, ideally with exposure to public or outdoor environments
- Is confident using hand tools and power tools, and understands how to always apply safety procedures
- Understands the importance of compliance with Health & Safety and child safeguarding regulations
- Can work independently and manage their time well, prioritising tasks and reacting quickly to new issues
- Is physically able to work outdoors in all weathers and handle equipment, tools and repairs on various surfaces and terrains
- Can confidently communicate with other departments, contractors, and the public
- Has good digital skills to log inspection results and access maintenance records using mobile devices
- Holds a full UK driving licence
