Summary
Job description:
• To assist an elderly female client who has a mild cognitive impairment and type 2 diabetes. The ciient requires daily care and support to lead an active life within her own home.
• To provide the person with assistance concerning personal hygiene, self-care and meals.
Roles and responsibilities :
• Assisting with self-care such as toileting, moisturising her skin with medicated cream, changing underwear, strip wash / bathing and servicing of meals.
• Administer medication (tablets via the mouth) and a inject insulin using an insulin pen.
• Conduct light house-keeping and chores (e.g., changing bed linen, washing cups and dishes, sweeping the kitchen floor).
• Occasionally may be required to do a light quantity of food shopping.
• Adhere to written guidance sheet specifically provided by the client's family for the Personal Assistant, in the interest of health, safety and comfort of the client.
Specific requirements ( experience/ qualifications..)
• To be appropriately trained in the care of elderly persons.
• Current First Aid at Work qualification.
• Good knowledge, awareness and practice of Health & Safety (e.g., prevention of accidents, fire risks etc..,)
• To have excellent written skills for maintaining a log of Actions for each visit.
• To have previous experience as a Personal Assistant in Health Care for an elderly person.
• Be of good physical health.
• Must be punctual.
• Must be patient.
• To have a high level of integrity and discretion.
• Understand and be mindful of the client's right to dignity and respect.
• Must be reliable, honest and trustworthy.
• Be respectful of the client's home, possessions and property (e.g., use of electricity, electrical equipment, gas and other utilities).
• Be self-motivated.
• Be able to encourage and engage the client in conversation.
• Build an appropriate working-relationship and understanding with the client and her family.
• Knowledge and experience of caring for a person who has diabetes and a mild cognitive impairment.
• Able to communicate effectively with an elderly person.
• Ability to remain calm when working under pressure and deal with challenging situations.
• Good knowledge of diabetes mellitus and the related signs and symptoms.

• I am from the Caribbean, but have lived in London for many years. i have worked within the clerical industry and retired over 20 years ago.
• Although I strive to do many things for myself, I presently require more assistance to achieve some basic tasks. Therefore, my need for a Personal Care Assistant is vital.

I like listening to music on the radio and watching day time TV, e.g., current affairs programmes, news bulletins and movies
