Sales Engineer – UK Rail Sector | Loughborough, Leicestershire | Full Time | £40,000 - £85,000 with OTE subject to experience

Our client, specialising in solutions for various types of infrastructure and based in Loughborough, Leicestershire, is expanding its activities in the UK and European rail sector and has a vacancy for a full-time Sales Engineer with P-Way experience.

The successful candidate should be proficient in understanding client needs, translating those needs into technical solutions, and demonstrating the value of those solutions to secure sales. A blend of technical expertise in P-Way infrastructure, sales, and communication skills is preferred.

The business has an established presence in the rail sector, supplying approved track life extension products to track maintenance teams, and is an active member of the S&C Alliance, which serves all aspects of switch and crossing component reliability. The Sales Engineer will support the Engineering Director in growing this market sector.

This role bridges the technical complexities of track geometry and reliability with the commercial realities of sales, ensuring that the best solutions are delivered to clients through the company’s products and services while achieving business objectives.

Are you the right person for the job?

• Qualification in Engineering (Civil, Railway, or related field) preferred
• 5+ years’ experience in a P-Way role preferred
• Experience in sales and business development is beneficial
• PTS and Rail Medical certification preferred
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to deliver technical presentations

What will your role look like?

Technical Expertise

• Understand rail track geometry, and track maintenance issues
• Analyse site conditions, offer feasible solutions, and provide technical solutions
• Understand interfaces with other railway systems such as signalling, power supply, and structures

Sales & Communication

• Identify and develop sales opportunities in the rail sector
• Build and maintain strong client relationships
• Present technical proposals, specifications, and reports
• Negotiate contracts and close deals
• Provide technical support during implementation and after-sales
• Deliver product demonstrations trackside and in rail yards

Project Management

• Collaborate with engineering, marketing, and operations teams
• Manage projects to ensure timely delivery and quality standards
• Assist with tenders, bids, and pre-qualification questionnaires
