Planning Services are seeking to employ a Planning Technician in Development Planning & Environment for a 1-year fixed term to work at Civic Centre, Livingston.


The purpose of the Planning Technicians is to assist service managers in ensuring that the service is delivered in an efficient and competent way.


The principal duty of the post being to supporting the Development Planning and Environment Manager in preparing statutory and non-statutory plans and documents.


The postholder will also carry out a range of technical support duties. These will include, but will not be limited to, supporting delivery of the council’s responsibilities in relation to statutory planning, building standards, education planning and environmental planning. The postholder will, on occasions, also support the delivery of functions across the whole of the council, but particularly the Planning, Economic Development & Regeneration service grouping


Essential requirements for the post are:



  • Significant relevant technical experience.

  • A knowledge of industry standard PC, graphics, mapping and word processing applications.

  • Political awareness and sensitivity.

  • Ability to manage workload to ensure delivery on priority projects.

  • In-depth knowledge of current and proposed best practice relevant to the responsibilities of the post.

  • Good information technology skills.
