Job Description:

Based at our clients state of the art aerospace & defence facility in Portsmouth, Hampshire the Spacecraft Payload Operator is responsible for the Assembly, Integration and Test of Spacecraft Payloads and active antennas. Each spacecraft product that is worked on brings its own challenges due to the customisation of the product but the flow it follows and processes the Spacecraft Payload Operator takes it through follow a routine, therefore undefined problem solving is occasional

*Role involves regular shift work (carrying 20% uplift on standard rate) earlies and lates (Double Days 6am-2pm & 2pm-10pm) as well as occasional Nights. Candidates may also be required to work weekends during production critical phases*

**The role will be based at Portsmouth, although may require some level of support to other sites and may involve some occasional travel**

Responsibilities:

• Electrical test including;

• performing automated test sequences using a Payload Test System
• manual RF measurements of payload equipment and sub systems and Electrical integration
• All achieved via interpretation of test procedures and schematics.


• Test performance: checking of payload equipment performance against parameters detailed in test procedures and review results for non-conformances.
• Mechanical integration of Payload equipments such as:

• Connectivity items (coaxial cables and waveguide)
• Test instrumentation (thermocouples, heater circuits and accelerometers)
• DC harness (connector mating and de-mating)
• MLI (templating, tailoring and fitting)
• Structural (inserts, riv-nuts, panel repairs) and wiring activities
• All achieved via Interpreting technical documentation (schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, 2D and 3D General Assembly Drawings, technical notes and integration procedures)

• Ensuring workspace standard are maintained; 5S policy, process confirmation, tool control
• Contribute to team performance activities including; Kaizen and SQCDP
• Works order completion, ensuring correct completion of production works orders for all activities performed
• Support movement and lifting operations using overhead crane and other MGSE (Mechanical Ground Support Equipment)
• Health and safety - Comply with production area Health and Safety requirements and practices, including handling of hazardous substances iaw COSHH requirements



Experience/Skills:

• Apprenticeship in Aerospace/Space or other high-quality production or maintenance field ESSENTIAL
• Any previous AIT/Spacecraft/satellite/payload experience
• Experience in a production environment related to mechanical assembly or electrical/RF test
• HNC or HND in an engineering production or maintenance field desirable
