Emotional Wellbeing Teaching Assistant
Helping pupils thrive through care and understanding
Summary
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and making a real difference to their school experience. With growing numbers of pupils facing social and emotional challenges, this role focuses on providing consistent support, helping children feel safe, valued and ready to learn. This position is due to start in September, offering the chance to begin the new academic year with a rewarding role.
About the Role
As an Emotional Wellbeing Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require extra care and understanding to manage their emotions and build confidence in the classroom. You’ll be part of a supportive team, working under the guidance of teachers and SENCOs, helping pupils to regulate their feelings, stay engaged, and develop positive relationships with their peers. No two days will be the same, and you will play a key part in creating a calm, nurturing environment where every child can flourish.
Who We’re Looking For
This role suits someone patient, compassionate and resilient, with a genuine desire to support young people. Ideal candidates may already have classroom experience, but we are equally keen to hear from those with backgrounds in care, youth work, mental health, or social services who are now looking to transition into education. Your transferable skills in empathy, de-escalation, and supporting individuals through challenges will be highly valued.
Skills and Qualifications
Experience in education, care, or support roles is desirable
Understanding of SEND and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs is beneficial
A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach
Good communication and teamwork skills
Relevant qualifications in care, health and social care, childcare, or education are welcomed
The School Environment
You’ll be joining a warm and inclusive school community that puts the needs of its pupils at the heart of everything. The school is committed to creating a supportive environment where pupils with additional needs can achieve academically, socially, and emotionally. Staff are collaborative, with a strong focus on pastoral care and positive outcomes for all children.
Working Hours
8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. Both full-time and part-time applications are welcome.
If you have the passion to support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and want to start a rewarding role in September, we’d love to hear from you.
Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
