Summary
The school nursing service is looking to recruit School Health Assistants to work term time only in both the North and South Bucks teams covering schools in these surrounding areas. The North Bucks team are based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and the South Bucks team at Amersham Hospital. You may be required to travel to other sites based on service needs.
You will help deliver a high quality service for school age children and their families under the supervision of the Specialist Community Public Health Nurses within School Nursing. You will also be required to support the BHT Schools Immunisation Team at times and will be given full training.
Experience of working in the community and /or with children is desirable. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
The role of the School Health Assistant involves weighing and measuring children in Reception and year 6 to deliver the National Childhood Measurement Programme in schools. You will also deliver the vision screening programme for 4-5 year olds and occasional hearing tests. You will be contributing to local and national targets for school health screening and be expected to communicate your findings to parents where excellent communication skills are essential. There may also be opportunities to deliver some health education in schools to whole classes or small groups.
Good IT skills are necessary to ensure accurate data collection and record keeping as we use online tools to undertake our screening programmes. You will also be asked as needed to support the BHT Schools Immunisation service during the delivery of nasal flu immunisations in schools.
With internal training, you will be expected to have an understanding of your requirements in the safeguarding of children whilst receiving a high level of professional support and regular clinical supervision.
