Hays are recruiting in partnership with our public sector client to appoint a Finance Assistant to join them on a permanent basis. This role offers a salary between £28,000 - £33,000, hybrid working from the Inverness office and a range of benefits.
Your new role
In your new role, you will play a key role in the finance team. Your duties and responsibilities will be centred around providing day-to-day administrative support to the Finance Manager by processing accrual and payment journals, maintaining financial spreadsheets, ledger maintenance and compiling finance reports for the wider management team. You will deal with a range of enquiries from the team in person, on the phone and via email, and you will be able to assist in gathering or checking information in relation to these queries. You will assist in the preparation of management accounts by preparing analysis of budgets and forecasts each month. You'll prepare information on any budget discrepancies and provide insight on any trends that may have a negative impact overall. This role would suit someone who is an experienced Finance Assistant seeking to progress into management accounts. Based in Inverness, this role offers a hybrid working pattern, with 2-3 days required in office per week. Flexible working patterns can also be accommodated if required.
What you'll need to succeed
In this role, you will be required to demonstrate previous experience of working in a finance team through a strong knowledge of accruals and payment processes and an understanding of budget analysis. A formal qualification, such as HNC/ HND or AAT would be preferred, but is not essential if you can demonstrate sound experience. You'll have excellent IT skills, in particular in Word and Excel. In Excel, you will navigate large spreadsheets and spend significant time updating them, creating formulas and using the results in your analysis. In addition, you will be well-organised and flexible to deal with urgent tasks. You will also be required to be an excellent communicator in order to deal with queries and provide the information needed to the Finance Manager and wider team.

This role offers an immediate start and permanent contract. The salary range is between £28,000 - £33,000, and you will be appointed on a scale based on your experience.
