Note: This band 6 position can be offered as either a split role in pelvic health and musculoskeletal physiotherapy, or apredominantly pelvichealth role. Applicants must have some experience of the assessment, treatment and management of pelvic health patients.


We are looking for a dynamic,enthusiasticand passionate Band 6 Physiotherapist to join ourlarge outpatientphysiotherapy teamwhichoffers treatment to both pelvic health and musculoskeletal patients.


Youwill play a significant role in our expanding pelvic health servicethathaspreviouslywona Providers and Patients in Partnership award.We have proudly developed the service over the lastthirteento providetreatment for women’s and men’s health patients andwe workclosely withthesecondary careteamat Medway Hospital.



You will needgood communicationskills, be a team player,demonstratea flexible approach to a busy caseload, have good clinical reasoning and developing leadership skills to ensure our service is evidence based and delivered to a high standard. You would be working alongside a range of staffand mayberequiredto work in different clinics across Medwayand Swale.


This post is suitable for applicants who have already had exposure topelvichealth physiotherapy and are keen to develop their clinical skillsfurther.

• State Registered Physiotherapist
• Recognised degree / diploma in Physiotherapy

• Band 5/6 experience in musculoskeletal and pelvic health field

3. Analytical and judgement skills
• To assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment.
• To maintain HPC registration, CSP, trust and departmental standards, guidelines and policies ensuring quality of service, monitoring own and less senior members of staff’s quality of practice.
• Maintain appropriate communication with the senior clinicians participating in regular supervision of pelvic health and musculoskeletal caseloads and seek new skills when appropriate.

4. Planning and organisational skills
• To keep up to date, accurate, problem orientated medical records in physiotherapy and MDT notes in line with Trust policy, legal requirements and professional standards and to provide written reports, discharge summaries in a timely fashion and to ensure staff within the area of responsibility do likewise.
• To ensure the effective collection and timely submission of clinical information and data to support decision making and the management and delivery of care.
• To maintain a high level of specialist knowledge in the management of pelvic health and musculoskeletal conditions, maintaining own clinical professional development by keeping abreast of new developments and incorporating them as necessary into your work. To maintain a Continuing Professional Development portfolio which reflects development.
• To plan, organise and prioritise own workload, balancing other patient related and professional demands ensuring that these remain in accordance with those of the team as a whole and assisting / guiding more junior physiotherapists, technical instructors and physiotherapy assistants to do likewise.
• To work with, and delegate work under protocol to, Physiotherapy Assistants and Technical Instructors.

5. Physical skills
• To deliver individualised physiotherapy treatment programmes using a broad range of physiotherapeutic skills in individual and group settings.
• To complete internal examinations and provide internal manual therapy techniques to manage pelvic floor dysfunctions.
• To demonstrate highly developed dexterity and co-ordinated palpatory skills for the assessment and manual treatments of patients which may also include external manual therapy techniques, acupuncture and electrical modalities.
• Responsible for own safe and competent use of all gym and electrical equipment, patient appliances and aids from own caseload

6. Responsibility for patient / client care
• To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work including the management of patients in their care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for their own patients and to support staff under their responsibility to do likewise.
• To undertake specialist assessment of patients including those with diverse and complex presentations and conditions: using clinical reasoning skills and assessment techniques to formulate individualised treatment plans and programmes.
• To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form an accurate diagnosis in a wide range of pelvic health and musculoskeletal conditions.
• To continually reassess patient progress, adapt treatment plans accordingly, and develop discharge plans.
• To refer patients appropriately to other health and social care services according to protocol providing timely and detailed information to ensure good continuity of care.
• To communicate effectively with patients and carers and other health care professionals using a wide range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to share assessment findings, agree treatment plans, progress rehabilitation, give advice, etc. This will include patients with communication and comprehension difficulties and those who may be unable to accept diagnosis prognosis.
• To liaise with health and social care professionals regarding patient care, treatment progress and discharge planning.

7. Responsibility for policy and service development implementation
• To demonstrate and apply a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and risk management to the work situation and manage clinical risk within your own caseload and that of less senior staff.
• To have working knowledge and application of Health & Safety issues related to aspects of field work and be responsible for the implementation of policies to improve the work safety of the immediate area, including the adherence to universal infection control measures.
• The post holder will be required to observe Health & Safety arrangements and take reasonable care of him/herself and persons that may be affected by his/her work and undertake mandatory training.
• The trust aims to maintain the goodwill and confidence of its own staff, service and users and the general public. To assist in achieving the objectives it is essential that employees carry out their duties in a courteous and sympathetic manner. The post holder will carry out their duties in accordance with trust equal opportunities policy, respecting the differing backgrounds of colleagues and clients.
• To undertake the measurement and evaluation of your own and the team’s work and clinical practice through the use of Evidence Based Practice Projects, audit and outcome measures. To make recommendations for change to service delivery, protocols etc in conjunction with the team lead physiotherapists and the Head of musculoskeletal services.
• To work closely with other senior staff, superintendent physiotherapist, extended scope practitioners and clinical specialists to introduce innovative methods of service delivery, which provide best practice, positive outcomes, improved access and the involvement of users in the planning, implementation and evaluation of services
