Summary

Assist and support the Unit Manager in the effective management of the department in accordance with the Trusts Personnel Policies and procedures. Deputise for the Unit Manager when required. Co-ordinate daily departmental clinical activities and maximise department resource potential. Ensure that accurate records and information systems are maintained. Ensure the safe control, custody and administration of all drugs within the peri-operative area in accordance with Trust Policies and national legislation. Inform Unit Manager if there is a change in circumstance, which may affect safe and competent practice. Support and participate in management initiatives as appropriate. Assist the Unit Manager to actively lead in the development of their specialised areas within the peri-operative services and take responsibility for managing an area of specialised practice. Assist the Unit Manager to ensure all staff attend mandatory training sessions as required. Assist the Unit Manager to effectively motivate a competent workforce, facilitate and plan the delivery of high quality patient care and to provide a safe environment for the patient at all times. Deputise for the Unit Manager by planning and organising the clinical activity on a regular basis with responsibility for the day-to-day management of a group of staff and speciality, and prioritise and plan (elective and emergency) patient care within the environment on a daily basis.
