At the University of Greater Manchester, we are proud of our growing reputation as a student-focused institution, underpinned by our vision of Teaching Intensive, Research Informed, Assessment Enabled Learning. As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the student experience, we are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of Student Services to join our Student Services & Experience Directorate.
This is a pivotal senior role within our professional services team, responsible for the strategic direction and operational delivery of holistic student support services. You will lead a multi-disciplinary team, drive service transformation, and ensure our support provision is inclusive, responsive, and aligned with the evolving needs of our diverse student community.
As Head of Student Services, you will:
· Lead the planning and operational management of all student services functions
· Provide oversight of International student support services, student financial support, Information, advice and Guidance from our dedicate Student Centre and oversee the student experience team.
· Provide senior oversight of Student Mental Health and Wellbeing services, including counselling, CBT, Mental Health support from our dedicated Life Lounge provision.
· Act as the University’s Safeguarding Officer and Prevent Coordinator, ensuring compliance and leading on risk management
· Drive a culture of continuous improvement across services, embedding data-informed decision-making
· Manage departmental budgets, resources, and staff development
This role also plays a key part in embedding a whole-university approach to student wellbeing and experience, enhancing outcomes and creating a safe, supportive and empowering environment for all students.
We’re looking for a proactive, strategic leader who is passionate about student support and inclusion.
You’ll combine a strong vision with practical leadership and operational expertise, and be confident working in a dynamic and collaborative higher education environment.
You will bring:
· A degree (essential), with a higher degree or equivalent experience in student support (desirable)
· Substantial experience in managing complex student support services, preferably within Higher or Further Education
· Leadership and team development skills, including line management of senior professionals
· In-depth knowledge of safeguarding legislation, Prevent Duty, and supporting students in crisis
· Strong understanding of Access and Participation strategies, OfS expectations, and student success policy
· Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
· Budget and resource management experience
· Experience of leading through change and delivering service transformation (desirable)
