Summary
Key Responsibilities
Interpret specifications and generate innovative design concepts that meet requirements.
Develop and maintain an accurate Bill of Materials (BoM) with clear revision control.
Engineer components and sub-assemblies for all design-responsible BoM items.
Support customers and suppliers in the development of their components.
Integrate all components and sub-systems into complete seating systems.
Analyse products (virtually and physically) and document issues in an open issues list.
Identify and eliminate technical issues by addressing root causes.
Provide interim containment solutions with clear written instructions.
Produce clear, complete, and unambiguous engineering drawings.
Apply knowledge of legal, customer, and company safety requirements.
Ensure compliance with legal, customer, and Lear-specific standards.
Verify product manufacturability and feasibility.
Release all components and assemblies into PLM systems (Lear & customer).
Perform tolerance calculations to ensure functional requirements are met.
Order parts, maintain revision control, and support builds, samples, and mock-ups.
Participate in prototype seat builds and physical component mock-ups.
Ensure test plans are complete and demonstrate compliance with specifications.
Support manufacturing facilities (Lear & customer) in resolving technical issues post-launch.
Monitor and audit offshore best-cost country tasks.
Demonstrate behaviours aligned with Lear vision and values.
Communicate effectively with peers, leadership, suppliers, and customers.
Work independently and within teams in high-pressure environments.
Maintain diligent, methodical engineering and record-keeping practices.
Show flexibility in supporting key events outside normal hours or at other sites.
Apply strong planning, organisational, and decision-making skills.
Demonstrate enthusiasm for mechanical engineering and seat design.
Key Skills & Qualifications
Must have:
1. Tertiary-level STEM qualification.
2. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a mechanical engineering role.
3. Ability to develop and communicate engineering schemes from concepts or surrogate parts.
4. Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
5. Proficiency in MS Office Suite applications.
Desirable:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
2. 5 years’ experience in automotive seating.
3. High competence in MS Excel.
