About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional Advanced Practitioner to join our Learning Innovation Team, with a specialism in Initial Teacher Training (ITT). This is a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of educators and driving excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment across the College.
As an Advanced Practitioner, you will train, mentor and coach teaching staff, lead on quality improvement initiatives, and deliver impactful CPD. Your focus will be on supporting trainee teachers and early career educators, ensuring they are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive.
As one of the team of ITE specialists, you will play a central role in supporting and teaching our trainees throughout their professional journey-from induction to fully qualified and beyond. You will design and deliver high-quality lessons and training programmes, facilitate reflective practice, and ensure alignment with national standards and frameworks. Your expertise will help shape the future of teaching by modelling outstanding practice and cultivating a culture of continuous improvement.
You will be required to work one evening per week within this role (Wedensday) and your working pattern will be adjusted to accommodate this.
Key Responsibilities
- Mentor and coach new and trainee teachers, including those undertaking teaching qualifications.
- Provide expert guidance on teaching, learning, and assessment to ensure exceptional student experiences.
- Lead and support quality improvement initiatives across the College.
- Deliver targeted CPD and staff development with measurable impact.
- Facilitate innovative and inclusive teaching strategies, including team teaching, peer support, and communities of practice.
- Conduct lesson observations and provide developmental feedback.
- Research and share evidence-informed pedagogical practices.
- Teach across a range of programmes as required.
- Design and deliver high-quality Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes, supporting trainee teachers from induction through to qualification.
- Facilitate reflective practice, ensure alignment with national standards, and collaborate with curriculum teams and external partners to foster inclusive, evidence-informed learning environments.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
In addition to the core responsibilities outlined in the full job description, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Ability to critically reflect on and evaluate practice, values, and beliefs to improve learner outcomes.
- Capacity to inspire, motivate, and raise aspirations of learners through high expectations and a passion for learning.
- Exceptional knowledge of educational research, current pedagogical methods, and assessment strategies.
- Deep understanding of the teaching role and responsibilities within legal, regulatory, institutional, and ethical contexts.
- Strong awareness of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and how to create inclusive learning experiences.
- Good understanding of learning theories and how they underpin effective teaching practice.
- Solid grasp of curriculum design and the factors that influence it.
- Clear understanding of what constitutes outstanding teaching and learning.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate in Education/PGCE/DTLLS (essential)
- Higher qualification in teaching and learning (desirable)
- Coaching/mentoring qualification or willingness to obtain
- Proven excellence in teaching and mentoring
- Experience in observing and developing teaching practice
- English and Maths GCSE at a grade 4 or the equivalent
