A bit about me:
I am a 56 year old female looking to build up a team of PAs who can provide me with 24hr live-in care, working in my adapted house where I live with my husband and cat. I enjoy a range of hobbies and activities: I have a great love of books and reading, I’m an avid sports fan, especially cricket and tennis and an ardent fan of theatre, especially musicals. I like to attend the theatre as often as possible and also enjoy going out for meals and coffee with friends and regular visits to the cinema. I am an outgoing and chatty person and do like to have good conversation. I am a full time power wheelchair user with cerebral palsy and quadriplegia. I need full support with all activities of daily living including personal care. It is extremely important to me that I have support that enables me to live the best life possible.
About the role:
Personal Tasks: I need help with all aspects of personal care, some hoisting may be required although my husband currently manually transfers me, so there is no lifting for the PA. I do not have a profile bed, so rolling me on the bed and dressing me on the bed is also required. I also need support with feeding and drinking, I drink using a straw.
Domestic Tasks: Maintaining the household, preparation of all my meals including cooking a main meal in the evening which will be agreed what we are having for dinner, if the PA does not want to eat what my husband and I are eating then you will be responsible for buying your own food.
Social Tasks: Assist and support me to continue to access my local community to include trips to the theatre, cinema, meeting with friends for meals and coffee etc.
Other Tasks: Support with household admin e.g. typing correspondence and emails, booking shows and doing anything that I am unable to do. I can use remote controls if they are put in front of me.
Medication: I know exactly what medication I take, however my PA will have to give it to me. My husband orders my medication in conjunction with myself and PA and my husband picks it up from the pharmacy.
The kind of person I am looking for:
Someone who can respect my privacy, confidentiality and be sensitive to my needs. It is paramount that my PA listens and can take instructions from me. I would like my PA to be empathetic, compassionate, understanding, patient, reliable, punctual, honest, trustworthy, professional, respectful, fun and enjoy their job. I also must say that it is important to me that my PA does not patronise me, as this is detrimental to my health and well-being. My PA also needs to be able to work to their own initiative. It is requested that the applicant is female due to the role involving intimate personal care. For this reason, it is exempt under the general occupational requirement section of the Equality Act 2010.
