Overview
In anticipation of the departure of our existing GM, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and ambitious General Manager with a strong background in hospitality to lead and grow the ever evolving boutique-style independent Highland Cinema Restaurant and Bar in the heart of Fort William. If you’re looking for a new challenge, are driven, articulate, passionate about customer service and hospitality we’d like to hear from you.
The successful candidate will have a proven ability to build, lead, inspire and manage a team of over 25 staff and Managers across a busy, vibrant and diverse hospitality business. Experience of running events and sales would be beneficial, though not essential. You will work closely with our existing management team and the company Chairperson to oversee, develop, continue to grow and improve all aspects of the operations, delivering exceptional customer service at all levels, with a good understanding of the financial and operational aspects of the business.

Background
Highland Cinema is a one-of-a-kind, independent venue with a vibrant café bar and pizzeria, offering warm Highland hospitality, great food and good times. We show all the latest films, Live Cinema, locally relevant titles and host community-focused events. More than just a home for film, we are a welcoming space all year round for guests to relax, connect and enjoy.
Highland Cinema opened on the 25th September 2020, bringing big screen films back to Lochaber for the first time in 15 years, in a brand new, purpose-built two screen establishment, that combines cutting-edge technology with a beautiful, iconic and traditional style Highland building.
Duties and responsibilities
- To lead, inspire, motivate and manage a team of 25+ across a busy, vibrant and diverse hospitality business, comprising a two-screen cinema and restaurant bar.
- To work closely with the Chairperson and existing management team to ensure smooth running of day-to-day activities, including development of staff rotas.
- To identify opportunities and help develop and grow the business in new directions with local businesses, offering different events, workshops, private viewings, live music, etc.
- To act as the ‘guardian’ of the business and its policies and procedures, promoting best practice and ensuring high standards in all aspects of operation.
- To take responsibility for the condition of the building and equipment.
- To provide leadership and guidance in key aspects of the business, and take a hands-on approach to management and training.
- To ensure compliance with all relevant industry and government regulations and requirements.
- To undertake such duties as may be reasonably requested and that are commensurate with the nature and level of this post.
Essential Experience and Competencies
- Experience and success working at Senior Management level within the hospitality industry.
- Articulate and a good communicator.
- Experience of successfully managing, building and supporting a team.
- Experience of working with financial budgets and reporting.
- Good working knowledge of equal opportunities and diversity in the workplace.
Organisational responsibility
This position reports to the Chairperson and is reported to by all other managers.

Salary details
- £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience, plus profit share/bonus
