SOLICITOR/SENIOR SOLICITOR (REGENERATION AND DEVELOPMENT)

This post offers an exciting opportunity to provide conveyancing and property support to significant regeneration and development projects that have been identified as key priorities for the Council.

Now in year four, Renfrewshire Council’s £100 million, 10-year housing-led regeneration programme is delivering new build housing, ambitious tenement improvements, estate management upgrades, and energy-efficient retrofits. This cross-Council initiative is driving economic recovery, climate action, and community wellbeing through place-based regeneration.

You will be part of a successful and motivated team working in a fast-paced environment and will mainly provide advice and support relating to conveyancing and property work.

You must hold a current Practising Certificate from the Law Society of Scotland, an LL.B and a Diploma in Legal Practice.

Recognising the importance of our people’s development, this role comes with an opportunity for career progression. Whilst the Service is seeking a Senior Solicitor role at GR10, we would be willing to consider candidates who meet a solicitor role at GR9 criteria, but who have the potential to develop to a GR10 level at a later date.

Requirements for Grade 9 and 10 include:
• experience in conveyancing and property law and ability to undertake a range of diverse tasks and achieve successful outcomes;
• ability to deal with complex legal matters; prioritise a varied workload; work with minimum supervision; and carry out work to a high standard within timescales;
• awareness of legislative developments;
• research and reporting writing skills;
• effective interpersonal and communication, report writing, advocacy and time management skills; and
• ability to work as a team member as well as on own initiative, and to develop strong links with clients and, when appropriate, with elected members.

Additional requirements for Grade 10 include:
• an extended period of post qualifying experience;
• demonstrable experience in relevant areas including complex title examination, compulsory purchase orders, shared equity arrangements, and drafting and negotiating contracts and missives and associated documentation such as servitudes, standard securities and deeds of real burdens;
• you must have an ability to work under pressure and possess a keen eye for detail;
• you must be able to motivate others (including supervising paralegals, administrative and clerical staff where necessary) and demonstrate an ability to deliver innovation in service delivery and to provide relevant in-house training;

If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check at a level appropriate to the duties of the post. If you would like further information in relation to the Disclosure Scotland checks, please visit www.disclosurescotland.co.uk.
