Falkirk Council

Our Council of the Future builds on the fact that Falkirk Council is well respected, has a culture of efficiency and continuous improvement and we take our community leadership role very seriously.

The Council Plan confirms our vision for Falkirk: Strong communities where inequalities are reduced and lives are improved.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to play a key leadership role in the delivery of a broad range of civil engineering schemes within the Engineering Design Unit of Falkirk Council.

The full portfolio includes:

  • Roads Design
  • Bridge & Structural Design
  • Flood Risk Management
  • Network / Traffic Management
  • Roads Development Control
  • Decriminalised Parking Enforcement

You’ll take overall responsibility for managing and allocating the resources available to the service – allocating budgets, deploying staff or commissioning services to ensure high-quality programmes that represent good value for money, meets legislative requirements and supports a first-class transport infrastructure all year round for our community.

This is a role with plenty of opportunity to do things differently. You will be encouraged to pursue commercial opportunities for the service, and to work more holistically with other service areas to enable us to simplify processes, share resources better and tailor our approach around the things that matter most to our community.

It’s a highly visible service, so it’s essential that you can manage the customer and stakeholder engagement that is an integral part of the role, as well as bringing the relevant technical and professional qualifications and experience. We expect that you will be educated to degree standard with membership of an approved professional body, and that you already have senior management experience in a related setting. Accomplished people management skills will be an important attribute.

You will have good organisational and mentoring skills, along with experience of managing a team and associated budgets. You will be IT literate, have good interpersonal and report writing skills, with an ability to work as part of a wider management team.

You are required to be flexible, innovative and reactive to public demands and pressures.

Benefits

  • We understand the need to work flexibly, with our hybrid working policy.
  • This role includes flexi-time.
  • Development Programmes for career development.
  • Local Authority pension scheme.
  • 27 days annual leave (increasing each year) & 8 public holidays.
  • Benefits portal with a range from local to national businesses.
