An exciting opportunity has arisen within the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership (ESEL) for a Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist in the Haematology Department.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Biomedical Scientist with a positive attitude, strong leadership skills and a proactive, patient centred approach. The successful candidate will participate in a 24-hour Agenda for Change shift system, which includes late shifts, weekends, nights, and bank holidays, where required.
The successful candidate will be primarily based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital site (QEH) in Woolwich, though there may be occasions where support is needed at other ESEL sites, depending on service needs.
You will be responsible for the daily management of the laboratory, primarily leading the Haematology section, and will work under the guidance of the Operational Leads to support service transformation. Therefore, prior management experience, leadership capabilities, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment are essential.
As part of a supportive and diverse team, you’ll benefit from regular supervision, experienced mentors, and access to modern, state of the art facilities, including:
Ø Winpath Enterprise LIMS
Ø Sysmex instrumentation such as XN and CN series, in Haematology and Coagulation respectively.
Ø Bio-Rad instrumentation within the Haemoglobinopathy section
Ø Ortho instrumentation within the Blood Transfusion section
We welcome applications from enthusiastic individuals who have completed an MSc in Biomedical Science or hold the IBMS Special Examination (Fellowship). Candidates who are actively working towards their MSc and demonstrate potential for the Band 7 role may also be considered under a 24 month secondment/developmental opportunity.
For eligible candidates who show exceptional promise but have not yet attained the MSc, a structured development plan, including sponsored postgraduate MSc modules at Greenwich University, may be offered. Subject to successful completion and verification of the MSc and all developmental milestones within the secondment period, the candidate may be eligible for transition to a permanent Band 7 post, in accordance with the role requirements and employment contract terms.
We look forward to hearing from passionate professionals ready to progress and grow within our organisation.
