Location: Birmingham

Duration: Permanent
Salary: £12.31 - £13.01 per hour, depending on experience

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children and young people? Do you have the resilience, empathy, and creativity to support individuals with learning disabilities, emotional challenges, or behavioural difficulties? If so, we’d love to hear from you.
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Support Workers to join our dynamic team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work directly with children and young people in a variety of settings, helping them thrive and reach their full potential.
Join NH Care as a Support Worker and make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and young people with learning disabilities and complex needs. This role focuses on delivering high-quality, child-centred care in a safe, nurturing, and homely environment—particularly during night shifts.
You’ll support personal care needs, administer medication, and assist with therapeutic and mental health interventions. Promoting education, communication development, and positive behaviour strategies are key aspects of the role, alongside maintaining routines and contributing to household tasks.
As a key worker, you’ll help shape care plans, encourage independent living skills, and manage financial responsibilities where appropriate. You’ll follow structured activity planners and shift schedules while ensuring cleanliness and health standards are upheld.
Team collaboration is essential—you’ll attend meetings, engage in supervision, and liaise with families, professionals, and the wider community. You’ll also represent NH Care positively and report any safeguarding concerns promptly.
What You’ll Bring
You’ll have experience working with children and young people, particularly those with learning disabilities or social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Ideally, you’ve worked in a social care or residential setting and are confident managing challenging behaviour with patience and professionalism.
You’ll hold a Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care (or equivalent), or be willing to complete an Advanced Apprenticeship, including Level 3 Functional Skills in ICT, Maths, and Literacy. A commitment to staying informed about national and local regulatory frameworks.
Your Skills and Strengths
We’re looking for someone with excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—and the ability to connect using alternative methods such as Makaton or sign language. You’ll be confident using ICT tools including email, Microsoft Office, and internet browsers, or willing to learn.
You’ll be a team player who can also work independently, take initiative, and respond positively to leadership. You’ll be able to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and remain calm and supportive in emotionally demanding situations. Confidentiality, empathy, and advocacy are central to this role.
Domestic skills such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry are also important, as is a flexible and proactive attitude to changing priorities and environments.
Your Personal Qualities
We value warmth, enthusiasm, and a genuine love for working with children. You’ll bring a positive tone, a sense of fun, and the ability to listen actively and respond with empathy. You’ll be reliable, honest, and consistent, with a calm and respectful approach—even in stressful situations.
We’re looking for someone who embraces diversity, values different perspectives, and maintains a non-judgmental attitude. You’ll be committed to equal opportunities and continuous personal development, always striving to help others achieve their potential.
Additional Role Requirements
This role requires flexibility. You’ll work unsociable hours including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and overnight shifts. You’ll also be available for daytime meetings, training, and supervision. Occasional overtime may be required, and you’ll need to travel between locations and accompany children and young people on holidays.
If you’re ready to bring your compassion, creativity, and resilience to a role that truly matters, apply today and help us build brighter futures.
Informal enquiries can be made to Gaby Howell, HR Manager, gaby@nhcare.care
Unfortunately, we are NOT able to offer sponsorship for a visa for this role.
