Summary

KEY DUTIES Practice at all times within the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Practice. To attend mandatory training as required. To present an appearance, which gives a positive image of the Trust, and a manner which, is appropriate and inspires confidence? To ensure fulfilment of the requirements for professional updating and maintain a personal record for future registration purposes. To develop patient care pathways incorporating new technology Work within and monitor standards of care within the defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the ward and directorate to ensure adherence to and delivery of a high-quality service. To ensure privacy and dignity of patients is paramount and not compromised. Regular audit of adherence to ward privacy and dignity guidelines. Ensure effective communication processes are in place to meet the needs of patients, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team Propose and develop evidence-based policies/procedures and working practices within the clinical area and ensure they are implemented. Responsible for setting an agreed standard of patient care and ensuring its delivery, monitored by audit. Sets a high standard of record keeping regarding patient care which is comprehensive, concise, valid and audited on a regular basis. Responsible for implementing strategies which enable quality targets to be met utilising recognised audit tools. Provide clinical and professional advice to all members of the nursing team. Maintain Professional Registration. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSABILITIES Responsible for completing patient paper treatment packs Dictation of clinic letters TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSBILITIES To create a climate conducive to learning for all staff and students alike and maintain established links with the University of Health Care. To be responsible for ensuring the annual appraisal of band 5 staff in order to implement professional and organisational targets, review performance and identify training and development needs via personal development plans. Act as a Mentor and support staff through preceptorship and clinical supervision. LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the management of daily operational responsibilities in the nurse led injection including work allocation, deployment and supervision of nursing staff to ensure the smooth running of the clinic. Effectively and efficiently manage and forward plan the use of nursing resources to ensure that appropriate skill mix is always maintained. Lead, support, counsel and appraise junior grades of staff within the nursing team to ensure development needs are identified and a cohesive MDT approach is maintained. Sets the standard required for the safe keeping of patients property and valuables. Resolve complaints/issues timely and effectively at local level. Investigate and action plan formal complaints in conjunction with the Matron. To identify, monitor and review annually, objectives which implement and reflect the nursing strategy and corporate objectives. To identify options for cost improvements and support and monitor their implementation. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Identify and participate in CIP programmes for ophthalmology Ensure Lean principles are adopted on the Eye Clinic with tight stock control RESEARCH & AUDIT Support the Trust Clinical Governance Agenda by understanding and facilitating priorities for change ensuring that new developments embrace governance objectives. Participate in research and clinical audit programmes in order to foster innovative practice and contribute to the development of services and quality initiatives in conjunction with the Matron. Support strategies to reduce clinical risk, i.e. Hand hygiene, medical devices, protection of vulnerable adults.
