We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Higher Biomedical Support Worker to join our busy, friendly laboratory. This position is for a one year fixed term post.

The successful applicant will be expected to work in the Blood Sciences Specimen Referral Service (SRS) at the Bedford site, supporting the Biomedical Scientists and Senior BMS’s in the laboratory when required.

The department has UKAS accreditation, IBMS/HCPC training status and is one of a few organisations to have Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, & Transfusion Science National School of Healthcare Science accredited training status for clinical sciences.

We are committed to developing our services further, through expansion of on-site testing and integration with other services.

The successful candidate will be expected to work core hours Monday to Friday 08:40 – 17:10.

The post holder will be expected to:

· prepare, package and dispatch Specimen Referral Service (SRS) samples to reference laboratories in accordance with departmental SOP ensuring statutory regulations are met in the transport of specimens.

· Enter SRS patient results into the Laboratory Information Management System

· provide training to staff where appropriate

· contribute to the day to day operations and assist within technical aspects of the service.

· assist BMS and senior laboratory BMS in the delivery of a high quality, efficient and effective service, through the Quality Management System [QMS].

· follow policies and procedures ensuring that the service complies with current UKAS standards, national and European legislation and discipline specific regulatory bodies.

· assist in the training of support staff.
