Summary

About the Role

As a Section Engineer within the highways team, you'll play a crucial role in the successful delivery of highway diversions, realignments, new road constructions, and associated civil structures that are integral to the HS2 route. You'll be responsible for overseeing and managing all engineering activities within your designated area, ensuring works are completed safely, to the highest quality, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate all site engineering activities related to highway construction, including earthworks, drainage, pavement, kerbing, and associated civils.

  • Lead and mentor a team of site engineers and junior engineers, providing technical guidance and support.

  • Ensure strict adherence to highway design standards, health, safety, and environmental regulations, and company policies.

  • Develop and implement construction methodologies and temporary works designs specific to highway schemes.

  • Liaise effectively with clients (including National Highways where applicable), subcontractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate site records, reports, and documentation.

  • Identify and resolve technical issues and challenges proactively.

  • Contribute to the overall project planning and programming.

What We're Looking For
  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience as a Section Engineer on large-scale highway projects, with a strong understanding of road construction and related infrastructure.

  • Solid understanding of civil engineering principles, construction techniques, and relevant regulations, particularly those related to highways.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in surveying equipment and software.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

  • A strong commitment to health and safety.

  • CSCS card

  • SMSTS/SSSTS
