Summary

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical 1. To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of own professional activities 2. To adhere to and apply the Code of Professional Values of The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and HCPC. 3. To develop specialist skills in relation to specific client groups and then independently manage a caseload of complex cases providing a specialist physiotherapy service 4. To work closely with clients, their carers/families to encourage participation in the therapeutic process 5. To use clinical reasoning, critical thinking and reflection to monitor, evaluate and modify treatment, evaluate outcomes and thus ensure effectiveness of interventions 6. To provide specialist advice on lifestyles, role, functional abilities, self care and the physical environment after taking account of the effects of the medical condition on the individual and his/her family/carers 7. To participate in client related meetings as required 8. To communicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical, nursing and therapy colleagues, as well as outside agencies, to ensure the delivery of a coordinated multidisciplinary service. 9. To provide verbal and written information to other multi disciplinary professionals regarding the physiotherapy assessment, management and treatment of the client 10. To identify and manage the potential difficulties and risks involved in working alone in a community setting 11. To deputise for the Band 7 physiotherapy team leader when necessary, taking responsibility for the operational management of the team, allocating and organizing the work of junior and assistant staff to meet service priorities on a daily basis. Management/Administration 1 To ensure that services are provided in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Trust, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the physiotherapy teams policies and procedures. 2 To contribute to the review, development and evaluation of the physiotherapy service by attending and participating in a range of physiotherapy service meetings 3 To ensure own practices are in line with the agreed quality standards of service, based on departmental, professional (The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy) and national guidelines (e.g. National Service Frameworks) 4 To collect relevant statistical information and activity data in accordance with Trust, professional and departmental requirements 5 To maintain accurate and up to date documentation and to ensure that supervisees documentation is also in line with standards 6 To prioritise and manage the clinical and non-clinical responsibilities of the post on a daily basis 7 To support and supervise junior staff and students in prioritising and managing the clinical and non-clinical responsibilities of their posts on a daily basis 8 To direct, support and supervise rehabilitation support workers when delegating work to them 9 To be responsible for the security, care and maintenance of any equipment being used, ensuring standards of infection control and safety are maintained Education and training 1 To maintain and develop your own professional knowledge and be conversant with professional developments 2 To participate in staff and service development through attendance at service meetings and in-service training sessions 3 To develop specialist skills, as appropriate 4 To attend and/or update mandatory training and to take account of learning from these courses by applying it to working practices 5 To actively participate in monthly supervision and yearly appraisals with a senior member of staff 6 To provide support, guidance, teaching, clinical supervision and appraisal to junior physiotherapists and monitor and facilitate their continuing professional development 7 To develop skills as a Professional Practice Educator (supervisor) for students on professional practice placements and fulfil role of educator as appropriate This job description is an outline only of the duties to be performed and will be reviewed and altered in light of the changing needs of the service.
