Are you passionate about applying your evaluation and research skills to support an evidence-led approach to developing sustainable transport improvements in Greater Manchester?

Your Role

As an Evaluation Officer within our Insight team, you will focus on designing, developing, monitoring and managing the evaluation of active travel and sustainable transport schemes to measure the effectiveness the schemes have on the lives of people across Greater Manchester. You will be working in a dynamic and ambitious organisation committed to taking an insight-led approach to delivering the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040 and shaping future active travel and sustainable transport provision.

This is a hybrid role where you will be expected to work in the office 2 days per week.

For more information, please see the role profile at the bottom of the advert.

Who are we?

The Insight team exists to provide insight which shapes decision-making, and the people and place focused change, that supports both TfGM’s and Greater Manchester’s ambitions. We take a longer-term perspective even when the decisions being taken are short-term. This role presents a fantastic opportunity to be involved in work that is at the heart of providing accountability and delivering Greater Manchester’s ambitious plans to transform its transport network.

The Insight team delivers a broad programme of strategic research and evaluation activity. Working across the organisation, the team helps to establish strategic targets and oversees their monitoring. The team also provides support on a wide range of individual projects that have recently included: the school streets pilot evaluation; the active travel annual report; and the first stage of evaluation of GM’s Bike Hire scheme.

The Insight team sits within Transport Strategy, but has close links across the organisation. This role will involve working closely with the people delivering Greater Manchester’s active travel ambition, including colleagues from the 10 Greater Manchester Local Authorities, the TfGM teams tasked with conducting transport appraisals, and delivering active travel infrastructure and behaviour change initiatives.

What you’ll bring

What you do and how you do it is important whatever type of role you work in at TfGM and even small behaviours and actions can have a really big impact. At TfGM, our behaviours bring to life our values of Deliver, Care and Adapt.

You will have a proven track record in the formulation and execution of quantitative and qualitative research projects, with experience in managing and delivering the evaluation of interventions or programmes. You will have the ability to see the bigger picture, and objectively evaluate options which may be both complex and technical. Ideally, you will have a broad knowledge of sustainable transport systems.

You will be able to communicate effectively and influence a variety of audiences using your excellent stakeholder engagement skills. Experience in sustainable transport or health research, strategy or policy development work would also be desirable.

What we can offer you

This is a permanent role and comes with a salary of £47,539 - £52,866 per annum depending on experience, working with supportive colleagues and opportunities to collaborate across teams.
