Summary

Join Us as a Projects Coordinator – Help Drive Recycling Innovation in Cheshire West and Chester!
Are you passionate about sustainability, project delivery, and working hand-in-hand with communities to make a real difference? Cheshire West and Chester Council is looking for an exciting and driven Projects Coordinator to lead innovative recycling initiatives that support our circular economy, protect vital resources, and create lasting change in how residents reduce, reuse, and recycle.
What You’ll Do:
As our Projects Coordinator, you’ll play a pivotal role in designing and delivering creative, community-focused recycling projects. From trialling new schemes and technologies to tackling contamination and boosting recycling rates, your work will directly support environmental goals and resource efficiency. You will:
• Coordinate and manage end-to-end delivery of projects that engage the public in sustainable behaviour change.
• Work closely with internal teams, contractors, schools, businesses, and local residents to co-create practical solutions.
• Innovate, test and scale up approaches to improve recycling performance and reduce waste.
• Use insight and data to understand and overcome barriers to public participation in recycling.
• Monitor progress, report outcomes, and keep projects on time and on budget.
Who We’re Looking For:
The successful candidate will be a confident and organised project manager with a strong interest in sustainability and behaviour change. You understand the challenges of engaging the public and have practical experience in overcoming resistance and building trust to drive real impact.
We’d love to hear from you if you:
• Have experience managing projects from concept to completion – ideally in environmental, community or local government contexts.
• Understand the psychology behind behaviour change and can use this insight to boost participation.
• Thrive on collaboration, problem-solving, and turning ideas into action.
• Are motivated to support circular economy goals and improve local quality of life.
Why Join Cheshire West and Chester Council?
We offer a flexible and supportive working environment where you can shape your career while helping to shape the future of recycling in our borough.
Benefits include:
• Flexible working hours and hybrid working options for a healthy work-life balance
• The chance to develop truly innovative approaches in a dynamic and evolving sector
• Professional development opportunities including training, mentoring and progression
• A strong team culture and a workplace that values creativity, inclusion, and fresh thinking
• Generous annual leave plus bank holidays
• Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme and employee benefits programme
Be part of a council that’s committed to environmental leadership, community wellbeing and delivering services that matter and apply now and bring your skills, passion, and ideas to a role where they’ll really count.
If you have any questions about the role or would like an informal discussion, please email Sue Davies (sue.davies@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk) to arrange a call back.
